MILNE is the line of our maternal grandfather - Andrew Allan Guyan Milne.

He was born 28th October 1884 at 6 Stronachs Place, Aberdeen. His parents were George Milne, a merchant seaman, and Isabella Guyan, a cotton spinner.

Andrew had 12 siblings and I believe they suffered a lot from ill-health, due to overcrowding and cramped living conditions.

By the time of the 1891 Census, the Milne family were living at St Paul Street, Aberdeen in a house with probably only two rooms and most likely, an outside toilet.

Andrew married Jessie Shirron on 30 October 1907. I've been told he liked to draw and did oil paintings of flowers as a hobby.

His father, George Milne, a seaman, remarried after Isabella Guyan died aged 54. His second marriage was to Mary Ann Twigg, who herself had been married twice before.

George was the son of Robert Milne, a wincey weaver, and Jane Reid.

Isabella Guyan's parents were James Guyan, a merchant seaman and Jean Allan. Both are names which are very prevalent in the fishing village of Footdee (or Fittie as it is known locally) – which is now part of Aberdeen.

James Guyan was the son of Alexander Guyan and Margaret Morrice - another well-know Fittie surname!
